APW - Leslie & Price, Philadelphia, verge fusee doctor's watch with subsidiary-seconds and hacking feature, 56mm, silver OF original pair cases bearing London hallmarks for 1795, "T G" marking in cameo for casemaker Thomas Gibbard, outer case with initials to rear, outer case containing papers for watchmakers W.O. Talcott and C.W. Herrick both of Nunda, New York, white enamel dial with upper hour and minute register, large lower seconds-register, hacking slide under dial at left, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock having a grotesque mask at its neck, s#7656. Per the excellent info at Richard Newman's www.colonialwatches.com website, Robert Leslie and Isaac Price became partners in 1792 in Philadelphia and remained in business until Isaac Price's death in 1798. This firm had a very innovative business model, with Robert Leslie relocating to London to manage the English manufacture of watches and clocks contract marked with the Leslie & Price name to be shipped overseas and sold at their Philadelphia and Baltimore retail locations. CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, fully wound, balance not moving freely, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, few mild fine scratches; excellent dial with short scratch below seconds-hand, mild fine scratch at right perimeter; fine hands, gilt hour with dulled tone, blue seconds-hand with oxide and finish loss; outer case shows light wear, dark patina, some mild dings to left side of rear, latch is present and closes securely but button is broken; inner case shows light wear, some mild circumferential denting around perimeter, shallow dings or nicks to rear, past repair evident to pendant junction with solder excess visible internally; bow pivots freely.
